When I was younger, around 40, I swore that I would never live in a "retirement community". They're just for old people. Boy was I wrong. I am busier and more involved that I can ever remember being. Even when I was raising my boys, volunteering in school and church and day care, I didn't seem to be so busy. AND I LOVE IT!
Friday night there was a party in the Clubhouse for the volunteers. Saturday my nephew, niece and her daughter came here and took me to dinner, a little more about that later. Yesterday, a friend had an "outrageous" party, more about that later too. Tonight, I was supposed to go to a meeting and pay for an outing in NYC, but I was just too tired to get there. Hope I can pay tomorrow.
Now about Saturday. My niece's daughter, my grand niece, is 8 years old and is one of 10 children in her school on Long Island selected to speak to the astronauts on the space station. It's quite an honor and I'm so excited for her. She's quite bright and extremely well behaved. She even tried some food (pickled herring in cream sauce). She ate one piece, didn't like it, but didn't make a scene like some children. And I'm not at all prejudiced. Not at all.
The "outrageous" party last night was a lot of fun. It was good, clean fun. The idea was to either wear or bring something that you own, but you wonder what you were thinking when you bought it. We all have those, "What was I thinking" purchases. It was a lot of fun. I brought a very flowery tablecloth that I bought one day when I was trying to shake my formal (boring) table setting habit. I bought it about 15 years ago and never used it. I was very lucky, one of my friends mentioned that her daughter would use something like that, so I gave it to her. Now I have some room in my linen drawer.
Do you have any "What was I thinking moments"? Care to share?

A What Was I thinking Moment
I love my children with all of my heart and soul, but there have been times when I did wonder, "What was I thinking?"
(I'd do it all over again!)

my daughter went to a clothes exchange party. Bring stuff you don't like and switch with your friends.
I would have to have a short and fat exchange party.
