Night Out

Last night we had a performance at our clubhouse by Johnny T. He is billed as the man of many voices. He sings in the style of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc. At first we weren't sure whether he was really singing or lip-syncing. I'm still not sure. In any event, he was very talented.

He also did salutes to The Temptations, Bobby Rydell, Frankie Valli, Dion and the Belmonts, Elvis, Paul Anka and one of my favorites Bobby Darin. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, including my sitting on the sidelines while the couples danced. The only difference was that there were a few of us singles sitting there this time. I wish we had been warned about the dancing. It didn't bother me too much, I'm used to sitting out a dance, but some of my friends were used to dancing with their husbands and it brought back too many memories for them.

I decided to bring a bottle of wine. So it seemed did everyone else. For a table of 10, we had about five bottles of wine, some soda. And the snacks. We had nuts, chips, dip, crackers and a new snack that I had never had - potato and corn baked. It looked a lot like cheese doodles and was delicious. There was a good variety of wine and snacks. We certainly had enough to eat.

It was a great night and I particularly enjoyed listening to my old music.

That is too bad that the night was sad for some. Totally unintended outcome. We have to figure a solution.
Maybe a Sadie Hawkins Dance or an announcement to dance with a "gal" from the next table for instance.
There are rare opportunities for anyone to dance.
Myself- it was not since my son's wedding 5 yrs ago that I danced so much. Usually my husband doesn't want to get up, esp if it is a dance he feels stupid doing like the Cha Cha or is too fast.
Nevertheless, there is way to fix this.

Boy, that's a list of singers I haven't heard in a long time. Sounds like that part of the evening was fun.

Dear Mom,

In the "old" days as I recall, many times the gals would dance with the gals. The guys wondered if it would be appropriate for two guys to dance together. They were perplexed by this phenomenon. It was funny. Strange, but it was true and nobody thought anything of it. However, if it was a nice romantic dance---well, then....But I do remember many "matronly women" dancing together to a slow dance and no-one blinked an eye. It is sad though and I can identify completely. Find a nice rich guy......
