NAME CHANGE

Every day we hear about government aid, government subsidies, government this and government that.  All these government aid, subsidies, etc. mean that money is being given away. Some people think that the government has an endless supply of money and no one is paying for this aid.

I've been thinking about this for quite some time and would like to see some changes.  Instead of using the term "government", we should say what it really is.  Maybe, if we heard about "taxpayer aid", "taxpayer subsidies", etc. it would hit home where this money is really coming from.

Actually, "government subsidies" are really "taxpayer subsidies".  We, the taxpayers, are sending our money to various governments - city, state and national, so that they can in turn pass the money on to those in need or the pet projects of the politicians.

Won't you join me in calling it what it is?  There should be no more government spending.  It should, from this day forward, be called taxpayer spending.

What do you think?

Carol Burnett

Tonight I sat down to watch the PBS broadcast of the Mark Twain Award Show for Carol Burnett, but I almost turned it off within the first five minutes.

Tina Fey started the show off with a few "jokes".  These jokes had absolutely nothing to do with Carol Burnett, but they were a chance for Tina Fey to get in a few digs at the Republicans.  I wish someone had told Tina Fey that the night was not about her, but about Carol Burnett.

I stayed tuned and the next few personalities did their little bit, and it was all about Carol, as it should have been.

Carol Burnett is one of the most talented performers.  Her show was always a pleasure to watch.  She was a lady and never political.  I really miss her show.  We need more comedians like that.

Now it's time to get back to the show.
